Mr Rajan Patel

Rajan is clinical lead surgeon at the MercyAscot Head & Neck Service and Neck Lump Clinics, and at Auckland Head & Neck Service which he established with Mark Izzard in 2010.
His clinical interests include surgery to treat oral (mouth), pharynx (throat) and skin cancers of the head, face and neck; and complex reconstruction of these areas.
He is the New Zealand Convenor for the World Head & Neck Cancer Day. He has been involved in Head and Neck Cancer treatment for 20 years.
Rajan was appointed Consultant Surgeon at Auckland City Hospital in 2009 for his extensive surgical training and expertise in head and neck surgery and reconstructive microsurgery. Rajan was awarded his medical degree (MBChB) by the University of Glasgow, Scotland in 1995. Following basic surgical training in a variety of surgical specialities including plastic surgery, Rajan commenced advanced ORLHNS training in Bristol, England. He qualified as a specialist surgeon in ORLHNS in 2006. Thereafter, Rajan undertook additional specialist fellowship training (1 year at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, University of Sydney and 2 years at the Toronto General Hospital, University of Toronto) in head and neck surgery and reconstructive microsurgery of the head and neck. Whilst working in Toronto he was awarded the prestigious fellowship in head and neck surgery accredited by the American Head and Neck Society. In 2011 the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons awarded Rajan the Fellowship of the College (FRACS).
