Event Monitor / Holter Monitor

A

Cardiologist

will request Event and Holter Monitor testing. They record your

heart function

i.e.: how fast it is beating, whether the rhythm of your heartbeats is steady or irregular, and the strength and timing of the

electrical impulses

passing through each part of your heart. A

Holter Monitor

is a machine that continuously records the heart’s rhythms. The monitor is worn for 24 to 48 hours during normal activity. An

Event Monitor

is typically used by a patient for 7 – 15 days, when the patient has symptoms, they activate the device by pressing a button on it to signal ‘an event’. The

heart rhythm

prior to and during the event is stored in the device memory. This technology is useful for the examination of patients who have intermittent or rare symptoms, since the device can be used for long periods of time.
