Genetic Testing

Genetic Testing are medical tests used to find out whether a patient has a predisposition towards

hereditary disorders

or to confirm or rule out a

genetic condition

. Some hereditary conditions include certain cancers,

cystic fibrosis

and

Huntington’s Disease

.

Genetic counselling

can help the patient with the decision of whether to test or not. Counselling can also help a patient come to terms with the results of testing. Genetic testing can provide information on prevention and treatment options for a condition if positive. If there is a negative result this can eliminate the need for future testing.
