about Lou Hayes

I qualified from Bristol University Medical School, UK, in 1990. I then went into general surgical training and early on developed a special interest in breast surgery and trauma. I became an ATLS (Advanced Trauma and Life Support) instructor in 1997. In 1999 I moved to the Oncoplastic Breast Unit in South Manchester, where I spent three years learning techniques of breast reconstruction, as well as doing some research. Having obtained my full Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons and been accepted onto the specialist register in the UK, I moved to New Zealand in 2002. I took up the position of Consultant General / Breast Surgeon at Waikato Hospital in Jan 2003 and expanded into the private sector in April 2005.
