about Mr Peter Alison
Peter completed his FRACS in Cardiothoracic Surgery after training at the world renowned Green Lane Cardiothoracic Unit in 1997. He then spent 2 years on overseas fellowships, a year in Salt Lake City at LDS Hospital with his young family, followed by a hectic year as the Surgical Heart and Lung Transplant Unit at St Vincents Hospital in Sydney.
Peter has been a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at the Green Lane Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit since the beginning of 2000, before the unit was moved and incorporated into its current home at Auckland City Hospital. His special interests include Mitral valve repair, introducing minimally invasive mitral valve to New Zealand along with Parma as well as other routine cardiac procedures including Coronary artery bypass grafting. He has a busy thoracic surgical practice, offering minimally invasive techniques as well as complex major thoracic resections.
In mid-2000 Peter assumed the role of Surgical Director of Heart Lung Transplantation. In this role he was involved with the beginnings of the national Left Ventricular Assist Device programme and sits on the Clinical Advisory Board to Organ Donate NZ. Other leadership roles include representing cardiothoracic surgery on the New Zealand National Board of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
