- This is a service for patients who require urgent treatment such as acute asthma or chest pain or severe illness (pneumonia, meningitis) or significant injury. It is also for patients who have been advised to come in for a Nurse Assessment when they cannot get an appointment. In some situations, a Nurse Assessment may be sufficient without a referral to a GP and there may be a charge for this assessment.
- The demand of this service is by its nature unpredictable and sometimes several sick people need to be seen urgently. This may mean a significant wait, and if your condition is assessed as not urgent you will be offered an appointment at another time
- The Doctor on duty is available between 9am and 5pm weekdays to see those patients that have been assessed by the nurse as needing an urgent doctor appointment. These Doctors change regularly, so it will not be possible to see a particular doctor through this service. The same charges apply as other appointments.
- This service is designed for urgent medical problems that cannot wait for a regular appointment. It is not for routine follow up of investigations or tests, cervical smears, medical reports, small non urgent problems, routine nurse procedures or routine repeat medication requests. These things require a regular appointment with your regular doctor or nurse.
