Well person checks
We encourage our patients to have regular checks to prevent illness developing, or to detect and treat illness early. These appointments include advice on smoking, cholesterol, blood pressure, and diabetes. They also include prostate checks for men and cervical smears and breast examinations for women. Relevant blood tests can also be arranged.
Cervical smears
Our practice nurses are trained in taking cervical smears. If you only need a smear test, you can book an appointment with a nurse. Some smear tests are subsidised by the Government, so please enquire about this.
Influenza immunisation
The Influenza immunisation is recommended and currently subsidised by the Government for any person over 65 years old and any person with a chronic condition. Others may have the immunisation if they wish. The immunisation does not protect against the common cold, tonsillitis, sinusitis or bronchitis.
Travel vaccinations
Make an appointment with one of our GPs to discuss travel immunisations and other required medications. The vaccinations will be ordered by the pharmacy. Please allow at least 6 weeks prior to travel to ensure you have time for a full course of immunisation.
Immunisations for children
We recommend immunisation at 6 weeks, 3 months, 5 months, 15 months, 4 years, and 11 years of age in accordance with current National guidelines. We are happy to discuss benefits and risks with all parents. Please book an appointment with a Nurse.
Child development checks
Routine medical checks for children are recommended 6 weeks prior to immunisation, and also at 9 months, 2.5 years and 4 years of age. This is a normal Doctor's appointment.
Minor surgery
All aspects of minor surgery are catered for, including removal of warts, moles and skin cancers. Cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen is usually available at the time of an initial appointment. For other surgery, an initial appointment is required for assessment of the condition.
Maternity advice
Make an appointment with your GP to discuss pregnancy advice. Midwives are the leading providers of maternity care, however we do offer emergency advice if necessary. A list of local midwives is available at reception.
Contraception
An initial consultation for all contraception choices should be made with a GP. For repeat prescriptions of the pill, mini pill or depo injection, an appointment can be made with a nurse. Dr Patel and Dr Caswell can insert IUDs, and Drs Caswell, Mabidikama and Reid can insert the Jadelle implants.
Blood and X-ray results
We will only contact you if we receive an abnormal result. If we cannot contact you by phone, we will write to you. Please make sure that we have your up to date contact details at all times. If you would like your results, you are welcome to ring and speak to a nurse and if you remain unwell or are worried, please call and speak to one of our nurses. We also have an online option called Manage my Health which allows you to access your results on line. There is an annual charge of $10 to access this software.
