I am a New Zealand trained specialist Endocrine & General Surgeon consulting and operating at Southern Cross Hospitals Wellington.

My public practice at Wellington Hospital is busy with both Endocrine and General Surgery work and I receive local and regional referrals for sub-speciality care across the full range of endocrine surgery procedures.

In addition to my clinical roles I am actively involved in service development and as the lead clinician for SAPU (the Surgical Assessment & Planning Unit) and the supervisor of surgical training.

Thyroid Surgery:

The thyroid gland is a small organ that sits in the front of the neck wrapped around the windpipe, generating hormones that affect the bodys metabolism. There are a range of conditions that might require Thyroid Surgery, for example:

• Goitre (enlarged thyroid gland)
• A concerning thyroid nodule
• Confirmed thyroid cancer.
• Overactive thyroid problem (hyperthyroidism)

Parathyroid Surgery:

Parathyroid glands are normally found between the trachea (windpipe) and the thyroid gland, controlling the level of calcium in your body. The most common reason for surgery is due to high levels of calcium in your blood. Some symptoms are:

• Problems with your kidneys
• Muscle weakness and fatigue
• Stomach ulcers and heart rate changes
• Weak bones or organs due to high calcium levels
