Somnath is a highly skilled general surgeon trained in the UK and New Zealand. He began his medical journey in India, where he completed his undergraduate degree, before moving to the UK to finish his basic surgical training. During this time, he also earned a doctorate specializing in pelvic floor dysfunction.

Somnath relocated to New Zealand and completed his general surgical training, achieving the prestigious FRACS designation. He then settled with his family in Palmerston North, where he commenced his career as a general surgeon.

After some time, Somnath took some time off to complete a fellowship in Head and Neck surgery and skin cancers at North Shore, Auckland. He has since returned to Palmerston North, where he now practices as a full-time general surgeon with special interest in skin cancers, thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Somnath is also the chair for the regional thyroid MDM that includes Manawatu, Whanganui and Taranaki.

Somnath is adept in a wide range both open and laparoscopic general surgeries, with a particular emphasis on complex skin cancers, thyroid and parathyroid surgeries.
