Dr Michael Wynn-Williams

Dr Michael Wynn-Williams is an expert Advanced Laparoscopic Gynaecologist who returned to New Zealand in 2020 after 20 years overseas. During this time Michael completed his fellowship and worked as consultant Gynaecologist in UK and Australia.

Michael is an endometriosis specialist (AGES Level 6) with extensive experience in minimally invasive pelvic surgery. He favours a multidisciplinary approach to managing complex endometriosis cases.

Michael will see private patients locally in Auckland at his rooms at Ascot Hospital, Auckland. He will also see private patients from around New Zealand and Pacific Islands by telehealth video conferencing. Michael trained in obstetrics and gynaecology in Christchurch, New Zealand, where he developed his interest in endometriosis management. Post-training, he undertook a two-year Fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery with A/Prof Alan Lam in Sydney. Michael backed up his sub-speciality training with a post-fellowship year in Glasgow, then completed a 2-year consultant post at Cambridge University NHS Trust, Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, UK. Sharing his knowledge and skills with the next generation of womens health specialists, Michael taught and demonstrated advanced laparoscopic gynaecology surgery to doctors around the United Kingdom and Ireland. He continues to teach and demonstrate advanced laparoscopic surgery and pelvic anatomy to gynaecologists throughout Australia and New Zealand.

In 2007, Michael co-founded Eve Health in Brisbane, Australia with A/Prof Anusch Yazdani. Eve Health has grown to be Australias leading Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Fertility specialist practice. Eve Health focuses on specialists providing excellence in womens healthcare with an interdisciplinary allied healthcare model.

For 14 years, Michael provided private surgical services at Mater and Wesley Private Hospitals in Brisbane. He was the lead advanced laparoscopic gynaecologist at the Mater Mothers Hospital, caring for complex endometriosis cases from around Queensland, northern NSW, and the Northern Territory. Michael was a Senior Lecturer with the University of Queensland. For 12 years, up until April 2020, he provided fertility treatments through Queensland Fertility Group. Michael helped to establish a Fellowship program with Eve Health and Mater Health - teaching upcoming Gynaecologists to perform advanced laparoscopic gynaecology surgery under the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery (AGES) two-year training program. Always striving to progress his learning and increase his ability to provide the best care for women, Michael qualified in the use of the Da Vinci Robotic surgical system. He has also developed an interest in the multidisciplinary management of chronic pelvic pain, including the use of Botox for the treatment of pelvic floor hypertonic disorders.

Michael is the current Vice-President of AGES and board member of Endometriosis New Zealand. He is also on the medical advisory boards of Endometriosis Australia, Endometriosis NZ and QENDO.
