about Mr Peter Heppner
Dr Heppner grew up in Auckland where he completed secondary education before going to Auckland Medical School. His neurosurgical training was undertaken in New Zealand and Australia, obtaining FRACS (Neurosurgery) in 2007. After this he completed advanced fellowships in complex spine surgery and paediatric neurosurgery.
Dr Heppner has practiced as a consultant neurosurgeon since 2007 and was appointed head of paediatric neurosurgery at Starship Hospital 2015, while maintaining a busy adult practice in public and private. He has a strong focus on teaching, having previously served as supervisor of training in neurosurgery at Auckland City Hospital and on the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia examination committee. He was elected to the board of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia from 2015 to 2023, rising to the position of Vice President.
Dr Heppner has an active interest in research, having published on the management of hydrocephalus, brain tumours, epilepsy and cervical spine surgery.
