about Prof Charles McGhee

Professor Charles McGhee, a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon for 25 years, specialises in corneal diseases, including dystrophies and keratoconus. He has performed more than 1000 corneal transplants and has pioneered a number of techniques including corneal stem cell transplants. He has a longstanding sub-specialty interest in cataract surgery, the management of complex cataracts and reconstruction of the anterior segment of the eye following trauma. He is Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology and Head of Department at the University of Auckland. His clinical research on eye diseases and ocular surgery has produced 300 scientific papers and international recognition including: Director, New Zealand National Eye Centre, Chair, Australia and New Zealand Cornea Society, and President of the 50,000 member Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology.
