Dr Cockfield completed his specialty training in Orthopaedic and trauma surgery in New Zealand, he then undertook further subspecialist training in: Sports surgery (Auckland), Upper limb surgery including shoulder, elbow wrist and hand surgery (Brisbane Upper limb Clinic/Research Institute and Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Australia) and Paediatric Orthopaedics (Starship Children's Hospital NZ; Shriners Hospital Portland, Oregon and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London, UK).
