Mr. Matthew Boyle

Dr Matthew Boyle is an Auckland orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip preservation, shoulder and knee surgery. He has performed over 430 periacetabular osteotomies (PAO) for hip dysplasia, a condition where a shallow hip socket causes pain in teenagers and young adults. PAO aims to preserve the natural hip and delay or avoid hip replacement. He also performs hip arthroscopy for impingement and labral tears.

Matthew has a strong interest in sports injuries and active patients with shoulder and knee problems. He performs arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation, rotator cuff repair, ACL and knee ligament reconstruction, and patella stabilisation, with the goal of returning patients to the activities they enjoy.

Matthew trained in orthopaedics in New Zealand (FRACS) and completed fellowships at Harvard University in Boston and Duke University in North Carolina. He has published over 35 scientific papers and book chapters, including outcome studies of his own patients.

Matthew works in private practice on Auckland's North Shore.
