In these ongoing times of pressure on medical services we are continuing to triage referrals and some may be returned to you. In order to minimize time, effort and frustration for you, us and the patients the following have been developed to guide referrals to Wellington ENT. If a referral is returned it expected you will notify the patient of this.
We are accepting referrals for ear conditions eg perforated ear drum, conductive hearing loss, otosclerosis, exostosis and asymmetric hearing loss. We can also see referrals for children with tonsillitis, sleep disordered breathing and ear infections and adults with recurrent tonsillitis. In general we are focusing on ear conditions and paediatrics.
Due to capacity issues we can NOT accept referrals for adults with nasal obstruction sinus symptoms, throat and voice issues including globus symptoms or neck lumps
ACC referrals for perforated ear drum or ossicular disruption (conductive hearing loss) will be accepted but NOT for chronic hearing loss or any nasal issues.
Patients with hearing loss will be required to have an audiogram prior to assessment and having this time of referral makes it easier if possible.
Patients for cochlear implant assessment can be referred directly to Southern cochlear implant programme who manage both private and publically funded implantation services.

Rebecca has been a consultant ORL since 2007 when she completed her NZ based training and then a fellowship in otology and neuro-otology in Perth Western Australia. She has worked in the wider Wellington region (Wellington, Hutt and Wairarapa DHBs) since 2008 in the public hospital system, where she still holds a position. She has two children of her own and connects well with paediatric patients, which make up about a third of her practice.
