about The Child Psychology Service

As parents, we all just want the best for our kids, but often theres a stigma in asking for help. Sometimes we might feel guilty that we cant do this on our own, or sometimes we just dont know where to go or who to ask.

Here at The Child Psychology Service, we know it can feel overwhelming and confusing when things dont go to plan, so we offer practical support from qualified, experienced, and kind people, tailored specifically to you.

If you have any concerns about your childs behaviour, learning, social, or emotional development, if they need support to manage their mental health due to anxiety or depression, if they are struggling to go to school, if they are neurodivergent and think, learn, & behave in their own unique way due to ADHD, giftedness, dyslexia or autism, or if you need a space to work through some of your own parenting challenges, then get in touch as we are here to help.

The Child Psychology Service is a team of experienced child & adolescent psychologists and psychiatrists located throughout New Zealand. Our team improves the welfare, well-being, learning & quality of life for children, young people, & their families. We offer practical, realistic support for tamariki & whānau to provide purposeful outcomes for your child & family.

Whether your child is feeling anxious, struggling with friend or peer relationships, or having difficulty learning or in the school environment we can help.

We work as a multi-disciplinary team. This means that people with dierent but complementary skills work together with children & families to make sure they get all of the help they need.

Sometimes a psychologist might think a child may have an underlying mental health need or neurodivergence, like ADHD or autism. If this is the case they will use some screening tools and gather data from other people involved in the childs life like their teacher. When this is done, they will share this information with the family and discuss whether a referral to our psychiatrist might be helpful. This information will also help to inform a support plan.

If you have any concerns about:

  • behaviour, learning, social, or emotional development
  • mental health due to anxiety or depression
  • struggling to go to school
  • neurodivergent due to ADHD, giftedness, dyslexia or autism
  • your own parenting challenges

All of The Child Psychology Services psychologists are experienced & qualified. They are registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and hold a current practicing certificate. This means we are bound to the practicing guidance of the New Zealand Psychologists Board.

The Child Psychology Service has recently brought on board a new Educational/Child Psychologist based in Rotorua.
