about Dr Ravi Suppiah

Dr Suppiah provides a comprehensive range of rheumatology, sports medicine and musculoskeletal services.

He is a rheumatologist with expertise in all areas of rheumatology and musculoskeletal medicine. He uses ultrasound routinely as part of the diagnostic process and to regularly measure disease activity in inflammatory arthritis and for guided injections.

Dr Suppiah has a subspecialty interest in sport and exercise medicine and has previously worked for OxSport in the United Kingdom. He specialises in discriminating inflammatory disease from injury, and is uniquely skilled to treat both.

He has an academic interest in systemic vasculitis and has published research papers, book chapters and a doctoral thesis titled 'Improving outcomes in systemic vasculitis' for his Doctor of Medicine (MD).

Dr Suppiah enjoys teaching and is involved with general practioner up-skilling, undergraduate medical school teaching, and co-ordinates the academic and professional development of the rheumatology specialist trainees in the Auckland region.

  • MSK ultrasound for diagnosis, disease activity and guided injections
  • PRP for osteoarthritis, plantar fasciitis and tendonopathy
  • Nerve blocks for pain management
  • URGENT appointments available for new active CCP positive rheumatoid arthritis
  • URGENT appointments for suspected Giant Cell Arteritis. This appointment will usually include a vascular ultrasound of temporal and axillary arteries for diagnosis, and therefore bypass need for temporal artery biopsy.
  • Infusions of biologic and cytotoxic medications for rheumatic indications

We do all Southern Cross Health Society members pre-approvals and claims on patients behalf.
We can do NIB health insurance pre-approvals and claims on patients behalf.
All others will be expected to pay on the day of the consult or procedure. We except EFTPOS, Credit Card (Mastercard and Visa only), or Direct Credit by Internet Banking.
