Counselling
Helps team of qualified and experienced counsellors offer counselling for people affected by rape, sexual abuse and family violence from both our Wellington and Porirua offices.

Counsellors work across both offices. Help is committed to providing culturally responsive counselling, by having a Maori counsellor available.

Counselling offers you:

  • a relationship within which difficult and painful feelings can be expressed in order to gain a clearer understanding of what may lie behind them
  • support in developing new skills, resources for coping and renewed capacity for self-determination
  • an opportunity to build a relationship of trust with a counsellor
  • an assurance of confidentiality

Counselling may help when:

  • facing a major crisis or loss finding it difficult to cope with loss or change
  • experiencing debilitating feelings of sadness, anxiety or anger feeling isolated, lonely or depressed
  • having difficulties with relationships
  • experiencing lack of meaning or satisfaction from life
  • needing to free ourselves from negative or painful feelings from past events

Costs and ACC
Helps counselling services are low or no cost. Counselling with Help can be funded through ACC. To find out about the process for obtaining ACC counselling please call.

If ACC does not cover the cost of counselling then we can discuss other options, for example using the disability allowance through Work and Income. Please contact the office to discuss these options.
