Peter Laws is a Specialist Vascular Surgeon with special interest in the investigation & management of venous disease, in particular the treatment of varicose veins with minimally invasive techniques including radiofrequency ablation, ambulatory phlebectomy, ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy & venaseal

Varicose Veins and Services
Varicose veins are simply dilated and tortuous veins. The superficial veins have dilated as a response to increased pressure refluxing from the high pressure deep veins through an abnormal (Incompetent) valve in the groin, behind the knee or via perforators. The increased pressure produces symptoms of aching, discomfort, itchiness, cramping and swelling. Over time the increased pressure can lead to skin changes, staining, varicose eczema and even ulceration.
Imaging using duplex sonography (ultrasound) is used to identify the cause of the varicosities and the extent of the reflux. The scan gives vital information necessary to determine the most efficacious method of treatment, one that will give you the best results with the lowest risk of failure and or complications.
There are a number of treatment options available including open surgery, EVLT (LASER), VNUS (Venefit) Radiofrequency ablation, Foam sclerotherapy, Phlebectomy and Venaseal. The benefit of choosing a clinician that offers all modalities of treatment ensures the patient is more likely to receive the treatment that best suits their individual needs.
