Adrenal Disorders
Adrenal glands are located at the top of the kidneys and produce hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. The adrenal glands interact with other glands like the pituitary and hypothalamus in the brain. Disorders of the Adrenal glands can either make the glands over produce or under produce hormones. Disorders include Cushing’s Syndrome, Addison’s Disease and Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). An adrenal disorder can also be caused by adrenal tumours. An endocrinologist and endocrine surgeon specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and management of adrenal disorders. Imaging scans such as CT, MRI and MIBG scans are used to view the adrenal glands.
