Sexual Health Medicine

Sexual health medicine involves a wide range of preventative and treatment measures, including the diagnosis and treatment of

sexually transmitted infections

(

STIs

) and related conditions; genital pain and sexual dysfunction; reproductive health including contraception; genital dermatology (skin care); and care of sexual assault victims. It also promotes the sexual health of the community through education, counselling, support and treatment is also provided to groups such as adolescents; refugees and immigrants; sex workers; and gay, lesbian and transgender populations. It has a clinical perspective and a public health approach. It includes the treatment of individuals and the contact tracing and treatment of their sexual partners.
