About A/Prof Geoffrey Braatvedt
Associate Professor Geoff Braatvedt is an Endocrinologist, Diabetologist and Physician working at Green Lane and Auckland City Hospitals and in private practice at the Mercy Specialist Centre.
He did his undergraduate training in Cape Town (MbChB 1981 with Honours), and after 5 years of post-graduate training in South Africa, moved to the UK in 1986 for specialist training (MRCP 1987 and MD 1991).
He moved to Auckland in 1992 and was appointed to a specialist post in 1992 (FRACP 1992). He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002. He has an active teaching role at the medical school, and has research interests in many aspects of Endocrinology with >60 published papers.
He is experienced in all aspects of adult endocrinology (excluding fertility) and has a special interest in thyroid disease including thyroid cancer. He does his own bedside thyroid ultrasound and biopsies and is a licenced prescriber of radioactive iodine both for inpatient and outpatients in the private setting. He is also experienced in all aspects of adult diabetes management including insulin pump therapy.

Geoffs special clinical interests and expertise include the management of adults with:
- Diabetes - including insulin pumps
- Thyroid disease, thyroid cancer management including radioiodine, thyroid ultrasound and ultrasound guided needle biopsy of thyroid nodules, thyrotoxicosis and hypothyroidism
- Osteoporosis, Adrenal disorders including Addisons disease
- Pituitary disease including acromegaly, Cushing syndrome
- PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and hirsutism
- Obesity and disorders associated with obesity
- Male hypogonadism and erectile dysfunction
All consultations , ultrasound , biopsy of thyroid nodules and delivery of inpatient and outpatient radioactive iodine
Affiliated provider for Southern Cross and payment made online via the Southern Cross portal -part charges may apply depending on level of cover. For other patients, payment at the time of consultation is expected. Fees charged available on request.

Geoff only sees patients by referral from another Doctor. He usually will review the referral and thus prioritise bookings depending on clinical urgency. Any Xrays/scans and blood test results can usually be obtained online if they have been done in Auckland. Otherwise please bring the reports with you.
