Specialist Training
Dr Diederik Meylemans graduated as MD at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium in 2009 (Magna Cum Laude), & further specialized in general surgery. As a surgeon (since 2015), he has completed a 12 month postgraduate training fellowship in complex abdominal wall repair & coloproctology in Imelda Hospital Bonheiden, Belgium & worked for nearly two years as senior clinical fellow in the Colorectal Department of the Oxford University Hospitals.
Dr Meylemans started as General & Acute Surgeon in the Auckland City Hospital in 2018. After starting in the colorectal unit, he now focusses most of his time on treatment of hernia & acute surgical patients. His special interest goes out to hernia/abdominal wall pathology, benign & malignant pathology of the small bowel & colon. He is involved in clinical research & started a PhD program looking into the outcomes & optimal management of inguinal hernia surgery, resulting in multiple peer-reviewed articles & presentations at national & international meetings
