Trauma Surgery

Trauma refers to a serious or critical bodily injury, wound or shock. Trauma surgery is involved in the invasive treatment of physical injuries, typically in an emergency setting. The trauma surgeon is responsible for the initial resuscitation and stabilisation of the patient, as well as ongoing evaluation and treatment. Surgery is most commonly required for injuries to the neck, chest, abdomen and extremities. Many other specialists may be called upon to provide treatment.
