about Dr Ausha De Silva
Ausha is a Gynaecologist and a Laparoscopic Surgeon with a broad range of experience over 20 years experience. Ausha consults patients privately at Boulcott Hospital, Lower Hutt and at Bowen Hospital, Wellington. In addition, Ausha is currently the Clinical Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Hutt Hospital, Lower Hutt. He is also the Gynaecology Clinical Lead.
He is an experienced complex laparoscopic, open abdominal, pelvic floor and hysteroscopic surgeon. He was the recipient of the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) Fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery and completed this at Womens and Childrens Hospital Adelaide in 2014. He is friendly, approachable, and an attentive listener. He works in partnership with patients to individualise a comprehensive care plan based on the latest medical evidence and their expectations.
Ausha has a wealth of experience in treating all menstrual disorders, including abnormal uterine bleeding related to endometriosis, adenomyosis and fibroids; menopause management including post-menopausal bleeding and MHT related issues, ovarian cysts and pelvic organ prolapse.
Ausha is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at The University of Otago medical school, Wellington. He is a member of the board of examiners for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He is also a member of the board of assessors of Specialist International Medical Graduates. He is a Fellow of both the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), UK.
Ausha is a committed teacher and a surgical trainer who regularly supervises and assists his colleagues and trainees with complex surgeries. He has been an educational supervisor for RANZCOG trainees in the past.
Ausha completed his training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the UK and was a specialist in NHS-UK prior to his move to New Zealand in 2018. He was also an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at The University of Aberdeen

- Menstrual disorders including heavy menstrual bleeding and abnormal uterine bleeding related to endometriosis, adenomyosis and fibroid uterus
- Menopause, post-menopausal bleeding and abnormal bleeding with MHT
- Prolapse and pelvic floor disorders
- Ovarian cysts and adnexal masses
- Pelvic pain
- Polycystic ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
- Infertility investigations and management
- Vulval skin disorders
In addition, he is also experienced in complex open abdominal and hysteroscopic surgery.
Ausha's practice excludes colposcopy.
