Specialist training
Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, Andy studied medicine at St Andrews and Manchester and completed an MSc in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery during his early surgical training in the UK. He subsequently completed specialist orthopaedic training in New Zealand, gaining FRACS in 2015.
He undertook a fellowship in trauma and joint replacement at Hutt Hospital, followed by a year-long fellowship in primary and revision hip and knee replacement at Wrightington Hospital in the UK, the birthplace of modern total hip replacement.
Specialist experience
Andys experience includes a travelling fellowship at Ganga Hospital in India and a visitation to the Helios ENDO-Klinik in Hamburg, Germany. He has served as Clinical Director of Orthopaedics at Whanganui Hospital and as a supervisor for the NZOA surgical training programme.
He has taught medical students and orthopaedic trainees, served on the faculty of hip and knee replacement courses, and contributed to research using New Zealand Joint Registry data.
