Auckland Radiation Oncology

Auckland Radiation Oncology (ARO) was established in 2008 as New Zealands first private provider of radiation therapy for cancer.

With facilities in Epsom and in Rosedale on Auckland's Northshore, ARO delivers advanced cancer treatment in a calm and modern environment for patients from across New Zealand.

Recognised internationally for innovation in radiation therapy, Auckland Radiation Oncology provides patients with access to world-class, advanced treatments that aim to improve cancer outcomes while enhancing quality of life. Patients are supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team, with each treatment plan tailored and overseen by a specialist radiation oncologist.

Patients can usually be seen by a radiation oncologist within a week of referral, with no delays for planning scans or treatment start once their plan is confirmed.

Auckland Radiation Oncology provides radiation therapy for cancer including those of the bone, breast, prostate, lung, colorectal, brain, head and neck and skin among others.

In person consultations are available in Whangārei, Auckland, Hamilton, Hastings, Palmerston North, Wellington and Dunedin. Our radiation oncologists also offer virtual consultations across Aotearoa New Zealand, and overseas.

Treatment Technology

Auckland Radiation Oncology offers world-class treatment technology, including:
New Zealands only CyberKnife system for sub-millimetre precision robotic radiotherapy, alongside the latest Elekta linear accelerator, and advanced imaging technologies to deliver highly accurate, personalised care.

Treatment plans use the latest techniques to maximise effectiveness and reduce side effects.

Costs are provided once a treatment plan is confirmed.

Radiation therapy is covered by most health insurance policies, but patients should check their cover with their insurer.

ARO can assist with prior approval from insurers and self-funded patients are required to pay before treatment begins.

Referrals are accepted from GPs and specialists in New Zealand and overseas. Patients are typically seen within one week.
