About Southern Cross Healthcare Ltd (National Office)
Southern Cross has had a long commitment to advancing the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders. Today, we operate the largest network of private surgical hospitals in the country, delivering elective surgery, high-end diagnostics and cancer treatment to over 86,000 patients each year across our network of wholly owned or joint venture facilities.
In partnership with a growing range of healthcare specialists, we support delivery of rehabilitation, mental health services and a wide range of corporate wellness services to New Zealanders, reflecting the broader ways we are now working to support Kiwis health and wellbeing.
New Zealand wide, over 1,000 medical specialists are credentialed to practice within our facilities, and Southern Cross hospitals offer access to a wide range of insurance funded, ACC, District Health Board and self funding patients.
Since the late seventies, our network has grown in terms of size, sophistication and scope of services, and we continue to make a very significant contribution within the wider health sector. We work with health insurers, other health funders and organisations in both the public and private health sectors, with the aim of increasing Kiwis access to quality healthcare.
We are owned by a charitable trust that works to support better health outcomes for all Kiwis, through a range of initiatives, from helping to address unmet health-related needs through charitable surgery performed in our hospitals to offering free dental care. We also support Pause Breathe Smile, a progressive education programme supporting children in schools.
As a trusted New Zealand brand, Southern Cross wholly owned businesses directly employ well over 2,500 people who are passionate about supporting a healthier New Zealand. Over a million people currently look to Southern Cross businesses for high quality healthcare and services, and thousands of Kiwis access healthcare options delivered across our network.
Passionate about our patients experience
We are passionate about being a leader in our sector in quality, safety and patient experience, with feedback systems supported by proven online survey platforms. Southern Cross hospitals rank among the best performers for patient satisfaction in Australasia, and 9 out of 10 patients recently surveyed are extremely likely to recommend our hospitals to friends and family.
Investing in quality, technology and capability
Our investments in our hospitals and clinical technologies include regular upgrades, new consulting centres and improved patient facilities. These investments can also be seen in areas including advanced robotic surgery systems, interventional cardiology systems, ICUs and other higher dependency facilities, accommodating more complex procedures.
Playing our part in advancing Kiwis health
As a trusted name in New Zealands health sector, Southern Cross is passionate about making a contribution to both environmental sustainability and our wider communities, also working to guide dialogue about healthcare through research, and contributing to efforts to support mental health.
