About MercyAscot Head and Neck Service

Head & Neck Reconstructive and Facial Plastic Surgery. Auckland’s comprehensive head & neck cancer centre.

We are two Consultant Surgeons – Mark Izzard and Rajan Patel, who are Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) with extensive post-fellowship advanced surgical training in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery; and reconstructive microsurgery.

Our areas of surgical expertise include cancers of the head and neck, reconstruction of surgical defects and facial plastic surgery. We consult and operate in new award winning state of the art facilities in Auckland City and North Shore. We work closely together to provide first class care for head and neck disorders with the aim of providing a prompt and friendly service in a professional but relaxed atmosphere.

As well as running a comprehensive private practice at Auckland Head and Neck Surgery, Mark and Rajan are integral members of the Auckland Regional Head and Neck Multi-disciplinary Clinical team based at Auckland City Hospital (ACH), where they perform the majority of complex head and neck cancer and reconstructive surgical procedures performed at ACH. They also train junior New Zealand surgeons (Registrars) and qualified international surgeons (Clinical Fellows). They both publish extensively in scientific journals and surgical textbooks. In recognition of their surgical expertise they are regularly invited to lecture and teach at national and international surgical meetings and courses. Mark and Rajan are the New Zealand head and neck faculty for AOCMF group, a non for profit group dedicated to educating surgeons around the world.
