about Grace Orthopaedic Centre

A COMPREHENSIVE AND COLLABORATIVE SERVICE AT NZS LARGEST ONE-STOP MUSCULOSKELETAL CENTRE

Grace Orthopaedic Centre provides a comprehensive service for orthopaedic conditions as well as Rheumatology, Neurology and Sports Medicine.

Our Orthopaedic consultants are all New Zealand trained with extensive overseas fellowship experience and offer a range of services including joint replacement surgery, spine surgery, arthroscopic surgery, paediatric orthopaedics, major deformity correction and treatment for sports related injuries and paediatric conditions.

The outpatient centre is located on the Grace campus, alongside Grace Hospital where our surgeons perform surgery. A full complement of medical imaging including CT scanning and anaesthetic services are also available onsite. Within the centre we have regular post-operative clinics.

Fracture clinics operate Monday-Wednesday by appointment only. Referral Criteria below.

Fracture Clinic
The Fracture Clinic is a free, semi acute service (7-day post injury) based at the orthopaedic centre, supported by orthopaedic surgeons practicing in the centre. Appointments are by referral only.

Urgent fractures should be sent to Tauranga Public Hospital or Accident & Healthcare on Second Ave.

Referral Info

Referrals preferred via healthlink EDI: orthcntr or SR e-refer live (search by specialist name) or email.

Referrals are triaged based on urgency within each surgeons practice. Please do not duplicate referrals by sending to multiple surgeons or via multiple channels.

All Referrals:

  • The specialist being referred to or naming the Fracture Clinic
  • Patients essential information such as name, DOB, NHI, Mobile Number, Address (& email address if you have it.
  • The reason for referral
  • The relevant history of concern
  • Any investigations undertaken
  • Any treatments provided to date
  • Date of injury and ACC number (if the concern is accident-related)

Fracture Clinic Referrals:

Detail of any casting or braces used, including type and date of application

Appropriate Fracture Clinic Conditions:

  • Fractures
  • Suspected fracture (if not shown on x-ray but mechanism of injury suspicious of undiagnosed fracture)
  • Severe sprains / severe soft tissue injuries
  • Acute Foreign Body
  • Acute tendon rupture / tears (Achilles): other acute injuries
  • Crush injuries
  • Patients that have had surgery elsewhere and are form our area and needing fracture management / follow up.
  • Finger / tendon injury eg: Mallet Finger

Exclusions from Fracture Clinic - Please send referrals for these conditions directly to a specified Orthopaedic Surgeon. Referrals for these conditions to the fracture clinic will be rejected.

  • Long term chronic injuries / arthritic changes
  • Long term tendon injuries
  • Non-specific injuries of a chronic nature
  • Non-specific back pain
  • Ganglion
  • Shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand surgery

Please refer patient for appropriate radiology to be done prior to the referral.
