about Macular Degeneration NZ
What is macular degeneration or MD?
The macula is the central part of the retina at the back of the eye.
The retina processes all vision.
The macula allows you to read, recognise faces, drive; just about everything.
Macular degeneration causes progressive macular damage & can lead to vision loss & blindness. 1 in 7 people over 50 will get macular degeneration.
