Prostate Biopsy in Hamilton
Your GP will determine whether a
biopsy
is necessary after he has carried out screening tests. A
prostate
biopsy is a routine procedure and will be ordered after results from screening tests (a blood test or a digital
rectal exam
) show you might have
prostate cancer
. The most common biopsy method is a transrectal ultrasound-guide prostate biopsy (
TRUS
). It is a simple 10 minute procedure where the surgeon will use an ultrasound probe inserted into the rectum to create an image of the prostate gland and with a needle, remove minute cores of cells. These are then analysed by a Pathologist. The procedure will be carried out by a
Radiologist
or
Urologist
.
