Mr Malcolm Gordon
About Mr Malcolm Gordon
Malcolm graduated as Bachelor of Medicine (MB) and Bachelor of Surgery (ChB) from the University of Otago School of Medicine in 1984. After completing lhis surgical training in Christchurch, Malcolm gained Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1992.
Malcolm then travelled to the UK for further post-graduate training - gaining invaluable experience in General and Vascular surgery and taking the opportunity to travel widely. He was then appointed Vascular Fellow at the Royal Perth Hospital; working with the world leading Lawrence-Brown/Hartley team during the developmental phase of their revolutionary endoluminal aneurysm prosthesis.
Appointed General and Vascular Consultant Surgeon to Christchurch Public Hospital in 1996, Malcolm would go on to pioneer endovascular aortic surgery in New Zealand, performing the first abdominal aortic, thoracic aortic and fenestrated graft repairs in this country, as well as overseeing the development of Christchurch's endoluminal program. He maintained a strong interest in the training of surgical trainees and medical students, and published research in the vascular and general surgical fields.
In 2004 Malcolm set up the Christchurch Vein Clinic with John Mercer, introducing endovenous laser treatment for varicose veins to the South Island and concentrating on the treatment of this debilitating condition. The Christchurch Vein Clinic provides a comprehensive range of contemporary venous treatments from a dedicated site. He has subsequently amassed a vast experience in varicose vein treatments, with over 5000 treatments performed.
His work also concentrates on minimally invasive treatments for a range of arterial diseases, including aortic, carotid and peripheral arterial conditions, and excessive sweating conditions (Hyperhydrosis). He has been very active in developing wound catheter systems for optimal pain relief with open vascular surgery.
