Gallbladder Surgery
A
Gastroenterologist
or
General Surgeon
will normally perform a
Cholecystectomy
which is the surgical procedure to remove your gallbladder. A cholecystectomy may be necessary if you experience pain from
gallstones
,
gallbladder
inflammation or
pancreatitis
due to gallstones. The procedure is most commonly performed by inserting a tiny video camera and special surgical tools through four small incisions to see inside your abdomen and remove the gallbladder. Doctors call this a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. In some cases, the gallbladder will need to be removed with one large incision. This is called an open cholecystectomy.
